ISA StoryWorld: Chandler's Stay by Kristen A. Peters is an insightful, compassionate story told through the eyes of a twelve-year-old autistic boy named Chandler who is facing a frightening hospital stay without the ability to name or communicate his strong, confusing feelings. The book explores ISA Therapy, which is a unique integrative approach using music, art, speech, occupational, and recreational therapy to help neurodivergent individuals understand, process, and communicate their thoughts and feelings. With the help of his parents and therapists, along with his own bravery, Chandler learns how to communicate and feel safe. It's a beautiful story about hope, perseverance, believing in yourself, and finding your voice.
ISA StoryWorld: Chandler's Stay by Kristen A. Peters is such an amazing story. I stepped into Chandler’s unique world as seen through his eyes and experienced his inner thoughts and feelings (that are often described using similes). I learned about ISA Therapy and how important and meaningful it is; in fact, this story inspired me to research more about it on my own. The characters are incredibly authentic and inspiring. I love the story’s powerful message about the importance of not feeling that you need fixing, but rather learning how to grow, use your voice, and believe in yourself. This story will surely resonate with the parents, caregivers, and therapists trying to help neurodivergent individuals who are struggling and remind them of how great a job they are doing. I highly recommend this short but deeply moving story to readers of all ages.
