The Myth of Aldez by Steven Trifiletti is the story of Aldez, a cheerful orphan from Kanuku Village in the land of Hillian. He spends his days running errands and finding lost things for people, always with a grin, and carries two wooden swords everywhere he goes. But he is not ordinary, as he has a great destiny. When he meets the Marquis of Montrose, a mysterious man with advanced mental abilities, Aldez’s life changes. He embarks on a journey to find the Shield of Rahman in Lakuryi Forest and learns he is the prophesied cyclical hero, chosen to rescue and protect the true heir and the realm. Aldez is mentored by the marquis, Lazaris Medici, a legendary swordsmith, and the Crown Prince Sheath, brother to Princess Isabella, heir to the throne of Hillian, the person he believes he is meant to protect. From the East, Empress Sheeva rallies her navy forces to face the Hillians, and Rahman, a dark spiritual force that opposes the realm’s prosperity, linked to the Black Shadow dragon, is back and ready to wreak havoc.
The Myth of Aldez is the first book in this epic fantasy series, and it introduces readers to an interesting world where prophecy, ancient wisdom, and destiny play an important role in the characters’ development. Aldez is easy to root for. Watching him stumble, learn, and slowly turn into a real warrior is rewarding. Steven Trifiletti’s writing keeps you on your toes, tossing in plot twists that totally caught me off guard. And right when you think you are settling in, the book ends on a cliffhanger, opening the door for Aldez’s next big challenge. The book delves into the intertwining of the past and present as readers will see how changes over time affect prophecies, bloodlines, and locations. It also touches on the spiritual and physical realms, which were mainly displayed on Aldez’s quest to find the Shield of Rahman. I truly enjoyed this book. I am invested in the story and interested to know what will happen next. This is a must-read for anyone who enjoys fantasy dramas about destiny and self-discovery.
