I Wash My Hands: The ‘Autobiography’ of Pontius Pilate by P. Drew Warren is a historical novel written in the style of an autobiography from Pontius Pilate's point of view. Pontius Pilate recounts his experiences as the Roman Governor in Judea and his decision during the trial of Jesus Christ. Gain a different insight into Pilate’s experiences as he seeks power in a place filled with political tensions and internal conflicts, while understanding the concept of responsibility and faith as we witness these famous events in the history of Christianity through his eyes.
I Wash My Hands by P. Drew Warren has a contemplative pace that fits perfectly with the book's reflective nature. This is a fascinating and imaginative take on one of history’s most infamous figures: Pontius Pilate. I felt as if I were living it, witnessing his ascent through the treacherous world of Roman politics, experiencing the turmoil of governing Judea from his perspective, and understanding the decisions that ultimately resulted in Jesus' crucifixion. The book has given life to Pilate, as though he is not just a minor villain in the story of Jesus' suffering. This 'autobiography' shows Pontius Pilate as a morally complex character with a sense of guilt. Some moments made me sympathize with him as I got into the book. The storyline is centered on politics and the balance of morality and ambition when seated in power. Warren’s fresh take on Pontius Pilate gave me a thought-provoking and, at times, unsettling look at the man behind the decision to crucify Jesus, and the very human struggles that might have shaped history.
