If...: Blurred Vision by Jackie Mae reminded me of a Twilight Zone episode: short, to the point, and creepy in a disturbing way. Timothy is having a rough week. First his wife cheats on him and says she wants a divorce. She even starts moving items out of the house. So Timothy visits a psychic and is told that he has less than 24 hours to live. Timothy isn't the psychic believing type, but one can't help but wonder when they receive bad news like that. Timothy decides to take his financial matters into his own hands (and not leave anything to the two-timing soon to be ex wife of his). Timothy believes he has enough time to visit the attorney before the accident the psychic predicted, if the accident even comes to fruition.
I liked the simplicity and straightforwardness of this short story. I felt part of Timothy's small community and liked how he met people on the street that he knew by name. I liked the details of his ex-wife's affair and the fact that she took their belongings (and Timothy thought they were robbed). I also liked the fact that Timothy didn't originally believe the psychic. That is a very realistic response, especially to bad news. But I liked the questions that this story posed. What if the psychic was right? Should Timothy plan for the worst case scenario?
