'I'll Give You Something to Cry About' is my first published book. It all started when I wrote seven chapters about my childhood and a professor encouraged me to write more. I never planned on writing anything else, I only wanted to pass the class. My aunt proof read the chapters before I turned everything in, and she gave it to my grandmother to read. After that, both of them kept telling me to write the book and publish it. So, I did. I appreciate all of the comments and ratings, because this is a learning experience for me as well. I am currently writing the next book called, "Traveling with Dogs". It's a series of books about my travels to different parts of the world. Thank you again!

I'll Give You Something to Cry About by Elizabeth Acker is an autobiographical account written in the first person about growing up living with and being raised by an emotionally abusive mother suffering from mental illness and disorders. Elizabeth and her sister live with their mother and grandparents. Their parents' marriage is over and they don’t see their father often or regularly. As the girls adjust to their new life, their mother remarries and they all move into a new place as a family. Their step baby brother is born shortly after, and things get progressively worse as Elizabeth is given more and more household chores to do, including caring for the baby. The abuse from her mother gets verbal as well as physical at times. Her life story as she grows up during her childhood and teenage years is chronicled here.
I'll Give You Something to Cry About is a book that draws attention to faulty and even abusive parenting that results from one or both parents suffering from mental illness, personality disorders, or mood disorders. In this case, Elizabeth’s mother is diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. The result is kids growing up in an abusive, and neglected environment. I found the writing style throughout to be quite direct and easy to follow. Her relationship with her biological father is also explored as they mend fences down the road. This is a good book that hopefully provides some insight into the nature of mental illnesses and the destruction these can cause if not properly treated.
