Inalienable (We the People, Book 1) by Christopher Scott Wagoner is an interesting science fiction story with lots of action. Morticia finds herself in a secret government program, abducted and kidnapped and told very little about the military facility where she's been dropped in the middle of the desert. She has no memories of the past two years and finds herself with a group of other misfits. People like herself, who are prisoners of Captain Bast in the hellhole in the desert. Except the members of the ragtag group aren't prisoners. They have special abilities, like the fact that Morticia can't die. When a threat from outer space threatens to wipe out the entire human race, Morticia and her friends become Earth's last secret weapon. They will fight until the bitter death to keep people safe from the deadly alien virus.
This book reminded me of a more grown up version of Sky High (about a high school for kids with super powers). The super powers are here (like shrinking) but the stakes are much higher in this story. There is intrigue and suspense and questions, never exactly knowing whose side is the right side and who exactly is fighting whom. I liked the action in this story, too, and loved the idea of a group of misfits being recruited to save the planet. I think other readers will really appreciate this David and Goliath story as much as I did.
