It's More Than Hockey: Adventures with Sassafrass by Neil and Nancy Whiteford is an educational picture book for young children. Sassafrass and Noah are twins, who are in the process of moving to a new town, which also means joining a new hockey team. Their new team name is "The Stars" and they can't wait to meet their new teammates. At their first practice, the twins are welcomed with open arms and feel at home with their new team. They learn all kinds of things that will help develop their skills. The first thing they discover is what being in a team involves, and by learning this, the twins and their teammates have lots of fun at games, even if they don't always win. Do you want to be part of a team like Sassafrass and Noah? Then read this book to find out what teamwork means.
It's More Than Hockey is a book children are going to love and learn from. This story contains so many important lessons for children to pick up on, with the main one being about how to be part of a team, whether it's in a hockey team or life in general. The illustrations by the brilliantly talented Noorpreet Jandu are professional and add so much more enjoyment to the reading experience. Children are going to love them! The writing is simple, which will allow children to follow along with ease. I hope to read more from Neil and Nancy Whiteford soon, and maybe they have another Sassafrass adventure in the works.
