While good poetry can mirror your emotions, wonderful poetry can give you insight, direction, and guidance. Journey in His Shadow: A Poetic Journey of Faith by Ellen Rile Colagiacomo provides just that. The book features a collection of over eighty poems, all crafted with talent and grace, to give you a new yet compelling and captivating insight into how you can live with purpose and inspiration. Colagiacomo's words call for you to lay down your burden and celebrate the hope, peace, healing of wounds, and comfort that dwells in God's forgiveness and salvation.
These are minimalist poems that beg to be read carefully and with serious consideration. Like drops of water, they tug at your very heart, slowly but surely accumulating until you're drenched. My personal favorite was Beacon of the Soul. The words in this poem urge you to look for Him. This poem made me remember some of the most difficult situations that have come into my life and how surrendering to Christ's love and mercy helped me rebuild in peace and light. Ellen Rile Colagiacomo writes in a direct and relatable manner, and her lines are straightforward without the sometimes perplexing intricacies common to poets. Journey in His Shadow deserves nothing less than five stars, and I will conclude with these heartfelt words from the poem The Potter: "...Our hearts are designed with a missing piece, and every heart does search here on earth for the fulfillment of the space. Only God fills that empty place..." Pure restoration of the heart.
