Killing Dreams by Donnette Smith is a tense crime novel. A killer everyone thought long dead. A police detective paying the price for the legacy of his father. Jenna left Farmersville, Texas, ten years ago with her parents after the truth about Cole's father came to light. Cole fought to see Jenna, but her parents kept them apart. Now she has work to do in her old hometown, which Jenna thought would be a quick jaunt, and then back home to Georgia. Little did she know that the nightmares that haunted her a decade before would return when she came back to Texas. With the knowledge that she should not have, Jenna confronts Cole in a bid to help the victims. She hopes to do this without revealing her devastating secret to Cole. Will Jenna convince Cole to help her? What secret is she keeping, and who is the copycat serial killer stalking Farmersville once more?
Killing Dreams by Donnette Smith is a sensual paranormal crime thriller/romance that is suspenseful yet easy to read. The characters are believable, and the plot is easy to follow. Some of the themes covered in the novel are psychic abilities, broken relationships, and deceit. There are some surprises in the plot development that complement the themes covered. Killing Dreams is the first in the Spirit Walkers series, which I would recommend to anyone interested in romantic crime novels with a paranormal twist. Fans of these genres would love to read this book.
