La Crêpe: A Sprinkle of Magic by Marie-Paule Mahoney is a heartwarming tale that blends family traditions, cultural heritage, and a touch of whimsy. Illustrated beautifully by Kendra Heer, the story captures the essence of Candlemas, a day celebrated with crêpes and wishes. The narrative follows Morgane, Gaël, and their mother as they prepare a special crêpe, only to have it mysteriously vanish up the chimney. What unfolds is a magical journey that connects their family’s hopes with the unexpected adventures of the crêpe itself. The magical journey of the crêpe, as it rolls through the village and encounters various animals, adds playfulness and imagination to the story. The interactions between the crêpe and the animals, such as Miou the cat and Cocodoc the rooster, are charming and humorous.

Marie-Paule Mahoney offers insights into the cultural significance of crêpes and galettes in Brittany (a region in France), weaving history and tradition seamlessly into the narrative. The Candlemas tradition of flipping a crêpe while making a wish is a delightful detail that highlights the importance of family rituals and the magic of shared moments. Heer’s illustrations complement the story perfectly, bringing the characters and settings to life with warmth and vibrancy. The artwork enhances the magical atmosphere of the tale. La Crêpe: A Sprinkle of Magic is a delightful story that celebrates family, tradition, and the unexpected ways in which wishes can come true. It is a perfect read for children and families, offering a blend of cultural richness, heartfelt storytelling, and enchanting illustrations.

La Crêpe: A Sprinkle of Magic by Marie-Paule Mahoney is a tender story about family togetherness and the power of hope. On February 2nd, Candlemas Day, Morgane and Gaël were by the fireplace. They were excited because their mother was preparing a special crêpe for them. Before the crêpe went flying, everyone made a wish. If it landed safely in the pan, the wish would come true. But when their mother made the move, the crêpe rose higher and higher, disappearing up the chimney. Feeling sad after finding no trace of it, the three went out to search for the crêpe, even with the snow all around. However, they didn't find it. What they didn't know was that the crêpe would travel far and prove to them that wishes can come true in the most unexpected ways.

Marie-Paule Mahoney shares with us a tender tale that is like reading two entertaining stories in one. On one side, we have a loving mother waiting for her husband to return, and her two children sharing their dreams. On the other side, the adventure of the crêpe rolling through the village, moving from one situation to the next. I liked that the narrative has a rich vocabulary. It is clear and easy to follow, showing a beautiful example of family togetherness and coexistence. I also loved the illustrations by Kendra Heer for the warm environments and the homey atmosphere surrounding the family. The book includes educational content about galettes and crêpes at the end. La Crêpe: A Sprinkle of Magic will teach young readers to believe in their dreams and to recognize the magic around them.

La Crepe: A Sprinkle of Magic by Marie-Paule Mahoney is a picture book for youngsters. One evening, siblings Morgane and Gael are making crepes with their mother. They’re eager for the crepes to be ready so they can tuck in. Their mother suggests they flip a coin and make a wish. If the crepe lands back safely in the pan, then their wishes will come true. They close their eyes and their mother flips the crepe, but when they open their eyes again, the crepe has disappeared. The siblings wonder where it could have gone, and they head outside into the snow to begin their search. Will they find their delicious crepe? Or has it gone forever, along with their wishes?

La Crepe: A Sprinkle of Magic was a pleasure to read. The author has created a captivating story that children will be drawn to from the moment they begin reading. The writing is simple to allow the young reader to follow along with ease, helping them absorb the words. The illustrations by Kendra Heer are a perfect fit for the book; they are unique and professional. I enjoyed the family dynamic aspect of the story the most, as it shows how important the bond between family members is. I feel this will encourage children to spend more time with their loved ones. This book is jam-packed full of adventure, and I know children are going to love reading it. I wish Marie-Paule Mahoney luck in her next writing adventure. Keep up the great work and stay creative.
