Let The Sad Thoughts Out by Chris Stead is a cute book that teaches children how to express their feelings. In the story, Jake is sad because he breaks a picture, gets upset at his mom, and fights with his sister. This makes Jake sad and he can't figure out how to be happy again. Author Chris Stead uses monsters in the heads of children to explain the struggles of feeling sad. This book teaches children that it is okay to talk about sad feelings and encourages them to talk to their parents and let those monsters out of their heads.
What a neat idea to use monsters to teach children how to feel happy again when sadness takes over their lives. I can just see a child's face as they are thinking about their head full of monsters having a party, and the confusion they feel. And then their excitement as those monsters fly out of their mouths when they let Mom and Dad know their feelings. Let The Sad Thoughts Out is truly a book that all parents need to read to their children, and it makes a great conversation starter. You and your kids will adore the special illustrations created by Danh Tran. I love the cute little monster characters, and Mum's, Dad's, and Jake's facial expressions are so adorable. The story and illustrations fit together so well. I feel this book is a must for every child's library, as well as every daycare, preschool and every other library you will find children. I wish I'd had this book when my son was little!
