In Let's Get A Dog!, Kendall Brown breaks down many breeds so you can select the dog that will best suit your household. The book is divided into four parts titled Human, Dog, Team, and Homecoming, which detail thirteen steps that will help you in your quest to find your new best friend. In each chapter, Brown provides a synopsis, a more detailed explanation, and suggestions to apply the text to your life. It will help you determine if you are ready for a dog, the type of breed that best aligns with your strengths and challenges, the "village" - dog trainer, veterinarian, etc. - that will help you care for your dog, and the advice you may need for a smooth transition between adoption and home. The author outlines breeds, ages, desirable avenues for acquiring your pet, ways to assess the dog's temperament, associated care costs, and the best time to address undesirable behaviors. At the end of the book, Brown provides a free, detailed workbook to help you find your ideal canine companion.

Kendall Brown will help you find the best age and breed of dog to add to your family and effectively integrate into your life. With helpful graphics and personal training stories that mention her challenges and successes, the author helps you match your expectations to the right breed instead of basing your choice on whatever dog jumps energetically when you call. However, if you already have a dog outside of your expectations, Brown shows you how to understand your pet better so you can create a more enjoyable experience for you and your dog. You can choose how much time you want to devote to the "homework" Brown supplies. She allows you to choose whether you want to review her text, have a regular involvement with the material, or research her information with gusto. Brown has worked with puppies from the best circumstances to dogs attempting to recover after severe trauma, so you can trust her wisdom. My family has been considering a dog, and the information helped me narrow my search to two breeds. New and seasoned dog owners will benefit from reading Let's Get a Dog! before they acquire their first - or next - dog.
