Lill and Mewe: Mission to Zanda by Jean E. Lane is a work of great imagination, a beautiful combination of sci-fi and fantasy that will appeal to both young and adult readers. The author takes readers on an explorative journey through other planets. The inhabitants of Mars think it’s time to explore the planets far beyond the Milky Way Galaxy. What will it take for them to reach Zanda in the Andromeda Galaxy? From figuring out the route beyond the Milky Way and actually setting off on the journey, it’s exciting. Exhilarating! Get ready to take the plunge with Lill and Mewe as they make the challenging journey to explore other planets. The question is: what has Earth got to do with all this?
This is supposed to be a book for children, but it was a very satisfying read for me. The writing is excellent with exciting and beautiful descriptions, plot-driven dialogues, and an excellent use of POV. Just in the opening paragraphs the reader is smitten with a beautiful image: “Both seem unaware of the soft glowing light that surrounds them; Lill’s is a beautiful turquoise, and Mewe’s glow is a soft yellow. The orb is also emitting small rays of violet and white. These colours of pure thoughts and emotions form a kind of energy field around their bodies.”
But there is just so much for readers to enjoy in this story. The characters are well-sculpted, with emotions and thoughts that readers can easily relate to. The plot moves fast and it has so many surprises. Lill and Mewe: Mission to Zanda by Jean E. Lane is a book that adults should buy, read, and then pass on to their offspring, a story that will make the reader feel like waking from a blissful dream after reading.
