Love Over Time by Diana A Hicks is a suspenseful romance and the third book in the Desert Monsoon Series, following two characters that don’t trust each other, but that are irresistibly pulled towards each other. Nikki Swift is a very beautiful woman, but she is also as sleazy as can be, a con artist struggling to get her life right. She had made up her mind never to return to her hometown, but after fifteen years, she believes she owes her sister a debt of freedom. Her sister has been in prison for something she never did and it’s time to set the record right. The last thing she wants is to cross paths with the handsome Henry Cavalier, a man whose heart she broke and whose money she stole. Now, he needs her unique set of skills to help his mother and to steal back a fortune. While he doesn’t trust her wholly, there is more here than he might have imagined.
Diana A Hicks had me enthralled by her storytelling skills. First, the story comes alive in the first-person narrative and the POV is so ingeniously developed there is no doubt when it comes to the scenes and clarity in plot lines. The second element that makes this novel exceptional is the crisp prose; it is tight, and the author has a unique way with words. I hate to see words wasted and this author shows great mastery of words and good writing. The third element that sets the story apart is the drama that fills every page. The characters are elaborately developed and I enjoyed how the backstory supports the idea of a second chance at love. The premise is strong and offers a springboard from which the conflict takes off. Love Over Time is emotionally rich, deftly balanced, and filled with compelling characters. The tension builds up fast and the climax is wonderful.
