Heather S. Coombes’s Marathon Wheeler: Living with Physical Disability is a deeply personal and inspiring memoir that chronicles her life journey living with cerebral palsy, from fragile beginnings in India to her calling in ministry and community service across Australia. The book weaves together her family history, medical challenges, educational pursuits, spiritual growth, and vocational achievements, capturing her grit and faith. It emphasizes that living with disability is a lifelong marathon requiring perseverance, inner strength, and reliance on faith and community support. This book delivers her story in an inspiring tone and examines her struggles through various life pursuits.

After reading Marathon Wheeler, I felt this book should be shared with everyone with self-doubt. I marveled at how Heather S. Coombes turned her handicap around, decisively pursuing her dream and designing the life she envisioned for herself. The central themes revolve around faith, perseverance, community, and the transformative power of fortitude. Coombes explores how her Christian faith sustains her through physical pain, social barriers, and personal doubts. The importance of acceptance, community involvement, and the need for inclusive church practices are explored with honesty and humor. Her stories taught me that disability is not a barrier to purpose but an element that can deepen one’s compassion and understanding. The book advocates for a shift in perspective—viewing disability as part of God's plan, with opportunities for growth, service, and leadership. The narrative voice is tender, humorous, and irresistible. This book is a gift of faith. It will inspire. Read it!
