Maya's Math Adventures: Exploring the World Through Numbers by Areeb Hirani is a fun kids’ picture book that makes learning simple. Maya loves math, and she’s amazed to discover that it’s not just something she’s learning at school – it’s everywhere. Through her daily life, through simple, everyday things, Maya learns how numbers are all around her, and the role math plays in everything she sees and does. Maya loves learning math, and she’s going to teach you a new way to learn it, too.
Maya’s Math Adventures by Areeb Hirani is one of the best books I’ve found to teach math. Kids will find it easy to learn with all the different stories and adventures that Maya has, and each chapter ends with a simple but effective lesson that covers what was taught. It also makes it easy to see just how much of our world revolves around math, and that it’s not just a useless subject you’ll never need when you leave school. The illustrations by Anaya Anaya are bright and colorful, telling their own story alongside the words, and making it easier for kids (and adults who failed math, like me!) to understand. Books like this should be standard reading in schools and homes to make learning fun. Everyone learns more when they enjoy the lessons, and the range of chapters in here – cooking, sports, nature walk, shopping, etc. – means there’s something for everyone. Great book, with learning made easy and fun, all rolled into a storybook that kids everywhere will love to read over and again.
