Men Without Redemption is a fictionalized look at organized crime and the families whose existence revolves around it. The Farina Family controlled gambling, bookmaking, and labor unions. The members of this “family” were well known and thought of in their community. Romolo was a pleasant fellow; most people liked him when they met him. The mob was looking for just such a fellow. They wanted someone they could groom and train, someone that would be easy to control. Romolo already had connections to a murder; he would be the perfect candidate to run against David Ross, the president of the International Union of Working People. The Farina Family was determined to increase their control of the union.
Men Without Redemption follows the lives of Teresa and Romolo from the couples’ teens throughout their married life. The young couple was desperately in love; she was attending medical school when he agreed to leave a job as an executive with his father’s construction company to work for a union. Their life would never be the same. Romolo proved he was more than capable union organizer.
Nick Gallicchio takes a myriad of plots and interlaces then to construct a story of epic proportions. He shines light on the politics, allegiance, and crime in America’s labor movement. His personal knowledge adds a touch of reality to Men Without Redemption. The love scenes are hot and spicy. The characters are well developed and believable. Teresa was the perfect wife for Romolo, she comes across as beautiful, intelligent, and yet more than a tad spoiled. At the beginning of this book, I thought Romolo was almost an innocent; he proves he is extremely intelligent and more than a little in love with his wife. He was tainted with the life his family had long embraced. Once I started reading I could not stop until I’d read every word. The plot is engrossing and the characters believable. Fans of fiction will not want to pass up Men Without Redemption.
