MENAFTER10 is a work of fiction in the LGBTQ+ and social issues subgenres, and it was penned by author Casey Hamilton. Written for the mature adult reading audience, the work does contain explicit reference to sex and sexual situations, graphic violence, explicit language, and reference to substance use and abuse. The narrative takes us into the murky and mysterious world of online dating with specific insight into the black gay experience. As three different figures embark on a quest for identity, love, and a sense of belonging, we see the highs and lows of the dating world played out. What results is an emotional and sometimes jarring look at modern love in the technological world.

Author Casey Hamilton opens this poignant novel with a killer instinct for action, lust, and intrigue, and the work only deepens and plays on your heart with every page you turn. Every character in the work had a brilliant dichotomy between their online presence and their true selves, but Bronte spoke to me most for his intentions and how he tried to navigate the tricky world before him. I enjoyed the varying presentation of dialogue, and the shift between the virtual and real was smoothly handled so that you never lost the thread of who was speaking and where the action was taking place. Overall, I would certainly recommend MENAFTER10 to fans of gritty urban romances but also to readers looking for poignant social commentary and deep, emotionally resonant LGBTQ+ characters. A sharp and well-penned contemporary read.
