Molly and the Magic Suitcase: Molly Goes to Shanghai by Chris Oler is a fun and educational book for children. Molly and her brother Michael are curious about Shanghai, China. They decide to travel there with their magic suitcase. There they meet a new friend named Nan Nan, who shows them around and teaches them about Shanghai.
Molly and the Magic Suitcase: Molly Goes to Shanghai may be a book for children, but it taught me a lot about Shanghai. Oler has filled this story with interesting facts, such as the maglev train in Shanghai being able to go 268 miles per hour and it does not touch the ground. I also liked that Oler told the reader how to pronounce words in Chinese. The colorful illustrations show what Shanghai really looks like. I really liked the special details that the buildings had in the pictures. I read this book with my four-year-old. She did need help with some of the words, but she really enjoyed the story. She now begs to ride the maglev train. I like that Oler touched on a little bit of everything in Shanghai.
I was happy to find out that this is the 9th book in the Molly and the Magic Suitcase series. This is a very fun and educational series that I would be happy for my child to read. This series teaches them different things about faraway places. I highly recommend this series.
