Mary Jo is the kick butt kind of heroine I love; strong, tough, and able to hang with the guys for as long as it takes. Sometimes underestimated, she had a chip on her shoulder, but I think that makes for a really cool heroine. I wish I was more like her and more women were more like her! When Mary is hired as a security guard, she thinks things are going better in her life. Then she's accused of a break-in gone bad and sent to prison. Mary Jo swears she was framed, but who is going to believe that story? So she busts out of prison and sets out on a path to clear her name and discover the true motive for the crime.
There was a lot to like in Muddlin' Through by Steven M. Moore. I really liked the different settings of this story, which took place in many different cities and countries, including stints in both South America and Europe. I think this addition of color and dramatic locations really enhanced the plot and made it more than just a straightforward adventure story. Mary Jo went through many changes as a character, including experiencing a nice little romance, and I think other readers will appreciate her depth as more than just a girl who can punch and shoot. I love the fact that she was so well rounded and not just a clichéd female, but a really well thought out character. Nice job.
