Mutual Funds: A Powerful Investment Avenue For Individuals by author R. K. Mohapatra is a work of non-fiction focusing on the financial world and the practice of investing. Authored by a financial expert with nearly three decades of experience, this concise and informative guidebook hopes to enable readers to access important and intimate details surrounding mutual funds. The book defines the funds for complete beginners and gives insight into elements such as the true cost of investment and what the potential risks and returns will be, as well as explaining different types of funds and how to maximize wealth by engaging with them.

Many successful working people come to a point where they have some savings and spare income, and they soon begin to think about a retirement fund. Author R. K. Mohapatra delivers a wonderful and highly accessible read for this audience that will inspire and inform them about the best ways to invest their capital and produce greater wealth for their retirement later on down the line. Discipline is a key theme, and the narration is clear and professional, but also motivational in its tone. As a total beginner to the finance world, I felt well educated on the nature of mutual funds and how they work, and of the specific goal-setting nature that Mohapatra describes. Overall, Mutual Funds: A Powerful Investment Avenue For Individuals delivers exactly what it promises from the outset, and I would certainly recommend it for both beginners and those already thinking about investment who need a strong guiding voice.

Mutual Funds: A Powerful Investment Avenue for Individuals by R K Mohapatra is a self-help financial guide for those interested in learning more about strategic financial planning for long-term growth. The book is broken into six separate chapters that cover the main points of Mohapatra's investment strategies, ranging from the basic principles of mutual funds, how they work, and the drivers that make them a solid investment vehicle, to the assessment of risk, evaluation, analysis, and the potential outlook for funds. The book is written with the Indian market in mind, with modules, graphs, and material laid out in the Indian rupee. Mutual Funds concludes with a group of supplemental appendixes, including a helpful list of asset management companies in India so that readers may be further guided on their investment journey.

Mutual Funds is a comprehensive manual that does a good job outlining the pooling of stocks, bonds, and other securities to create the open-ended and professionally managed funds. It is clear that author R K Mohapatra delivers guidance from a position of authority, having spent decades in the industry, and backs up his reasoning with facts and figures that do well in solidifying his message. Of particular interest to me was chapter three, Assessment of Risk in Mutual Fund Investment. It was enlightening to be given the ratios used and their names, and realistic guidance on how the layman and/or novice investor can mitigate risk through the use of funds and under the direction of professionals. The book is easy to understand overall and I believe it will prove useful to those with an interest in the subject matter.
