"I like thinking that I am a spaceship. I know that I have to take control of my warp speed brain so that I can slow everything down." So says Drake in Donalisa Helsley's My Warp Speed Mind. This journey begins with schoolkid Drake having trouble concentrating in class to the consternation and disapproval of his teachers and principal. Even his classmates don't really understand the way Drake feels and behaves. Drake can't seem to do anything right. The diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, shines a light on Drake's darkness and helps his family understand and cope with his actions. Miss Jessica is a therapist who listens, talks and relates to Drake as he is. This acceptance and help makes this young boy shine in his life at school, at play, and at home.

This young boy could be someone you know or he could be you. The story of Drake's ups and downs is very approachable and entertaining. The colorful illustrations by Kalpart highlight Drake's chaotic and sometimes humorous world. Drake takes his "super breaths" like a superhero in his own life. He breathes in his tendency to wiggle and to have racing thoughts. He breathes out these frustrations and he becomes more aware, slowing down. My Warp Speed Mind, written by Donalisa Helsley, shows how therapy and practical coping skills can reduce unwanted behaviors with an ADHD diagnosis. The endorsements at the beginning of the story show the value and authority of her professional advice and experience.
