Myla Learns Wings Over My Heart by Angela Thibault is an exceptional read for children because it gives them a simple yet successful way to initially tackle emotional problems. Sometimes, it’s difficult for children to share what is bothering them, especially when they are limited to verbally communicating it. But with the wonderful skill that Myla learns, children learn how to calm themselves and clear the way to understand the messages their bodies are trying to send. The story introduces them to the wonderful ability of energy and color to bring peace and emotional healing. Moreover, the skill used in this story opens the way to see not only the problem, but equally important: openness to a real solution that can be acted upon.
In Myla Learns Wings Over My Heart, the illustrations are done by the author. I enjoyed the way each scene places Myla and her wonderful, helpful friend, Aditha, as large, clear images, while the backgrounds are somewhat blurred. This perspective pulls the emphasis away from the surroundings. It focuses right on the importance of the child being centered in the energy and the skill. This skill is also a powerful tool for helping parents to help their children. Parents with children who might have trouble verbalizing what is wrong can use the gentle and loving approach provided in this book. In this way, they not only help their children to express themselves, but as parents, they learn much about how their children’s bodies can say so much about what is causing a problem. For both parents and children, the whole approach is filled with comfort and caring. Thank you, Angela Thibault, for such a beautiful and helpful story and skill.
