Nice As Pie by Jean Lirley Huff is an adorable story that speaks about the role of a grandmother in a child's life. In this cute little story, the little girl remembers her grandma picking peaches from trees and making fried pies. When grandma fed the chickens, she chased them. When she ran away from the snakes, grandma killed them. When grandma watered the flowers, the girl picked the flowers. The girl knows that her grandma loves her and she wonders why. The little girl loves her grandma because she is nice as a pie. It's a sweet story about a loving grandma and her adorable granddaughter.
The story is cute and the illustrations are cuter. They give life to the characters and pace and movement to the scenes and story. It's a good bedtime storybook for parents and grandparents to read out to their kids and grandkids. It also makes a good book for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. The gentle message of family love shines throughout the story. It's a wonderful tale that will bring back memories of their grandmother to many readers. The grandmother loves the little girl, her grandchild, irrespective of whatever she does.
It's a relatable story and the scenes are palpable. Apart from loving grandmothers, the book captures the playfulness of the little girl who is up to mischief most of the time, and how her grandma forgives her most of the time, like any other grandmother. The story captures the essence of the playfulness of childhood and a grandmother's unconditional love.
