In Joe Yang's book, Ninja Seals Book 3: Wacky Facts, two young seals, Alx and Scooter, find out lots of interesting things about the world. The illustrations are fun and well done, and clever enough to interest children of all ages, while the wacky facts will probably intrigue those young readers 8 years and up (especially boys in the 8-12 range). Readers can learn about the tallest mountain, what elephants cannot do and what seals can, where gummy bears were invented, and what ninjas actually wore! There is a bibliography at the back of the book for those with extra curiosity to check up on the facts and read more.
Ninja Seals Book 3: Wacky Facts by Joe Yang has the best of all worlds in a kids' book: pictures to entertain the littlest pre-readers, facts to boggle the minds of pre-teen boys, and it's educational enough to make parents want to get it, and interesting enough for all! I absolutely loved the illustrations in Ninja Seals. And I learned facts I hadn't known before. After reading Wacky Facts, I wanted to add all of Joe Yang's books to my collection. I think Ninja Seals: Wacky Facts would be a great resource for schools and libraries, as well as a must-have for any kid who is into facts. Did you know that elephants can't jump? Or that Everest is the tallest point in the world, but not the tallest mountain? I didn't before reading this book. I hope Joe Yang keeps writing and illustrating books, because he definitely has talent! Five stars. Highly recommended.
