Octavia Can Do It! tells the story of an adorable and enthusiastic little girl. Octavia wants to make chocolate chip cookies for her family. On other occasions, she has helped her mother cook, so she thinks she is ready. Her mother agreed that Octavia could cook while she supervised, but the mother received a phone call and left the kitchen for a few moments. Octavia then decided to prepare the cookies with the help of her younger brother, but things did not turn out the way she hoped. Still, she learned a lot about having a sense of responsibility. Liliana Tommasini shows that no matter what happens, cooking is fun. And at the end of the book, a recipe for chocolate chip cookies is included, so that children can prepare them when guided by an adult.
Octavia Can Do It! is an enjoyable book. The story teaches many things. Learning to cook builds confidence and independence and provides an example of a healthy lifestyle. It teaches children to be aware of their limits and know when to ask for help. I think cooking is a creative art and cooking with children is a great opportunity to spend quality time with them. The best part is that if a child learns to cook, they will have the skill to last a lifetime. Liliana Tommasini has chosen a fine theme. The drawings are adorable, and the narration is practical in this amusing book.
