Of Mind and Madness by J.T. Bishop is a thrilling mystery with just the right touch of paranormal elements to please readers across genres. Detective Daniels and Detective Remalla find themselves suspects in a series of mishaps, mayhem, and murder. Someone is out to get them, but the bodies keep piling up, accusations continue to haunt the duo, and old missing person cases are brought to light again in the most surprising way. Written with an experienced hand, this book cleverly places clues and thwarts the reader’s theories right and left as plot twists emerge. Relationships are challenged, broken, and renewed as the detectives race against the clock to save their own lives and discover the entity that is determined to cause them harm.

One of the things I most enjoyed about Of Mind and Madness is the complexity of the plot. Author J.T. Bishop skillfully creates layers of mystery with many moving parts without slowing down the story or making the reader feel they have too many characters or facts to remember. The mystery started out fairly straightforward but quickly evolved into one of the most delightful mystery books I have read in quite some time. Every part of this story was enjoyable. The resurrection of characters from previous books in this series and the far-reaching effects of family ties serve as a reminder that our lives are more entwined with the lives of others than we may even realize. To top it all off, J.T. Bishop subtly celebrates being different and choosing how we use our gifts and talents. This book hits a home run for fans of the mystery, thriller, paranormal, cozy mystery genres, and beyond.

Of Mind and Madness is a work of fiction in the supernatural genre, and serves as the fourth installment of the Detectives Daniels and Remalla series. It is aimed at the adult reading audience and was penned by author J. T. Bishop. The book follows Daniels and Remalla as they work to solve a crime of which Ramella himself stands falsely accused. Stuck in a seemingly perfect town until the matter is resolved, they find themselves on a trail of evil intentions and dangerous scheming, a trail that could lead them to their deaths if they make a wrong move during their descent into darkness.

With this installment, the Detectives Daniels and Remalla series delivers another compelling tale of suspense and mystery for an eager audience, using the supernatural elements of the story to their fullest potential to keep the twists in the tale exciting and unpredictable. By this point in the series, the emotional and physical scars on our two leads are evident, and J. T. Bishop never shies away from exploring the impact of the damage done over the course of the series so far. Layer upon layer of gorgeous and detailed characterization see the two detectives become ever more complex mosaics of their experiences to date. The mystery at the heart of the story is clever and dynamic, with pieces of the puzzle being carefully laid out as Of Mind and Madness develops. It’s a mystery that you’ll turn over in your mind between chapters – assuming, of course, that unlike me you’re able to put the book down at all.

In J.T. Bishop's Of Mind and Madness, Detective Aaron Remalla's life was falling apart. He was spiraling and didn't have the strength or energy to drag himself from the downward spiral. Fortunately for him, his partner Gordon Daniels had his back. He tracked him down to the remote village where he had hidden. When Daniels pulled him from the despair, he thought maybe, just maybe he could put his life back together one more time. But that was before he was arrested for murder. It's bad enough living in a town where no one ventures into the woods after dark in fear of the forces dwelling within, but when the local police have you in their sights there's probably nothing you can do to prove your innocence. Except maybe work the case yourself and prove everything that's happened is somehow connected.

Of Mind and Madness is the fourth book in J.T. Bishop's Detective Daniels and Remalla series. Going in this far through a series can always be a little jarring; however, I found this so easy to pick up and the necessary back story was explained so perfectly I didn't feel like I was jumping in partway through. It's definitely a stand-alone story in its own right with excellent character development and scene-setting. I loved how rich and polished everything felt about this book. From flaws and failings to motivation and drive, it is written in such a way you feel like you're walking alongside the characters, getting a glimpse directly into their psyches. I really enjoyed the breadcrumbs, the lore and legends, fact and fiction, and how it was perfectly interwoven with the plot. This really is a polished masterpiece, gripping and intense while written at the perfect pace. I really can't wait to read more work from this author.
