One Hot Escape: Hot Brits, Book 4 is a sizzling contemporary romance novel written by Anna Durand. Maddie couldn’t deny that she needed a rest, a vacation, and the island resort Rika and her husband had sent her to seemed the perfect venue. She had been on Elusion Island for less than an hour and was already comfortably ensconced on a lounger surrounded by sandy beaches, with a mai tai teasing her taste buds, and assisting her need to forget. She loved her work as an epidemiologist. It allowed her free rein to be a super-sleuth and find cures that would keep people alive, but it also exposed her to death and the endless suffering of others. Maddie realized she was burning out from the pressure and stresses of her job, and she was determined to make the most of the two weeks she’d get to spend in paradise. As she reveled in the sun, sand, and freedom from care, Maddie noticed a shadow suddenly blocking those warm rays. Peering up, she found herself unable to halt her frank and leisurely appreciation of his physical attributes. Then he spoke, and their connection was instant and intense.
Anna Durand’s One Hot Escape is a marvelous tale about strangers in paradise. Durand’s descriptions of a perfect tropical retreat and the two jaded and work-weary visitors who instantly find themselves drawn together drew me swiftly into the story and held me a willing accomplice throughout the tale. Her characters adroitly share their lives with the reader, discussing professional concerns, details about their lives, and bemusement at the passion that has so unexpectedly overwhelmed them. Durand’s plot is credible and fun, and her spicy passages are steamy, beautifully written, and lushly worded. And while this is the fourth book in Durand’s Hot Brits Series, One Hot Escape works perfectly as a standalone novel. I’ve long been a fan of Anna Durand’s characters, plots, and continuing sagas. This book delivers everything I’ve come to expect from her work, and more. One Hot Escape is most highly recommended.
