In Only One, a suspenseful Christian historical romance novel by Barbara Woster, Lara Esterhaus is the only daughter of Travis Esterhaus and Ava Salter. Lara’s parents died mysteriously in a carriage accident, and she was the sole heir to the family businesses and land. Lara would inherit a great fortune, but she had to be married within nine months; otherwise, she would lose her home since a woman could not own a house. Lara was determined to ensure that she and her faithful servants and friends, Joshua and Sasha, would not be evicted from their home. Lara advertised for a business partner to marry. To repurchase their family properties, English aristocrats Philip and Andrew Bensley needed money. One saved Lara from meeting the same fate as her parents and introduced himself as her fiancé.
Only One by Barbara Woster is set in the 1800s and is a rollercoaster ride of romance, murder, greed, and chivalry. I was hooked by the mystery and intrigue from the first page until the last. Once I started reading this page-turner, I could not put it down. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. I never knew what would happen next and was guessing until the end. The characters were authentic and relatable. Tall, beautiful, and clever, Lara was a remarkable young woman, and her servants, Joshua and Sasha, were like family to her. The book was excellently written, and I enjoyed reading it. It is a wonderful and romantic story.
