"Pancardi's Pride" by Ron Clooney is an outstanding mystery novel that will appeal to would-be detectives in all walks of life. In the Palazzo Piti in Florence, Italy, lies a fortune in money and jewels. The problem is how to get it out. Enter a team of thieves whose scheming and talent allows for one of the greatest heists of all time: the Romanov Jewels. There wouldn't be good thieves without accompanying excellent detectives. Enter Italian Inspector Giancarlo Pancardi and his British counterpart Alexander Blondell. After a bit of posturing and one-upmanship, the two become partners in the intricate plan to find out the team of thieves and bring them to justice.

This book has about everything a reader would want: mystery, intrigue, action, romance (adult only please) and the opportunity for the reader to get into the game of cat and mouse. Just when you think the mouse is trapped, the bars loosen and the game begins anew. The character development in this book is one to delight any reader who likes to get into role playing. It is easy to identify with all the main characters and it is this feature which endears the book to the reader, with the opportunity to go along with the action. It is fast-paced and yet there is time to sit and ponder what the next action should be. Clooney's style resembles that of Dan Brown with a unique twist that begs the reader to consider a major author-force in the works.

You won't be able to put this book down. Exciting, edgy, macabre and dark; this is no run of the mill thriller. It does exactly what it says in the blurb . . . keeps you guessing with twists and turns all the way but makes you smile too. Nerve jangling, fast and pacey it also has a feel good factor without being overly sentimental. This is an exceptional read. Enjoy the chase!

I could not put it down.
There is a lot of sex in it and some graphic violence too but that did not detract from the plot.
It twists and turn all over the shop but it keeps sucking you into the plot.
I read it over a few late evenings and then read the next one, A Measure of Wheat for a Penny, yesterday.
Ron Clooney knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat, even if it is a bit car crash at times.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
A great escapist read with a lot of laughs included.
The central Italian detective is very credible and amusing. Nice to see a lead that is not a sex symbol type but just a damn good detective. This isn't a copy of Michael Dibden, it's new and different.
This was fast furious and kept me guessing right to the end.
The female character is wonderfully evil.

Although I hate to use such a cliche, I really couldn't put this book down. It did twist and turn and yes it did keep me guessing.
I loved it!! Definitely worth a read

Richard Griffiths

I met Ron in Waterstones, and yes-he persuaded me to have a try at a genre I don't go for. I do prefer "other worlds".

However, he did succeed in getting me to try something I might like. It kept me guessing and it is well written. No clunkiness in prose or description, the research he discussed does show-without excessive exposition.

A nice treat overall.

Thanks Ron!

I was really, really enjoying the book. It has many twists and turns and I could not 'guess' the outcome as I read. Mr Clooney would have done well to have finished a chapter before he did; instead of tying up loose ends. Or maybe I just didn't get it... That said the rest of the book is well worth a read.
