Author Biography

I was an elementary teacher for 33 years. In the last few years of my teaching career, I taught science and STEM. I have always loved creating engaging teaching materials. I started a shop called the STEM to STEAM Team on the website Teachers Pay Teachers. I wanted to write a science book and I had a character in mind, but I wasn't sure how to go about it. I was in the middle of taking a course about book writing by Judy Blume when I met Pepito. I knew I had to share his story! I have since written several other science books for children!

The little kitten was sad and lonely. He sat quivering on the curb, trying to find the scent of his mother, brothers, and sister. He sensed footsteps coming near him and heard voices. His mother, brothers, and sister ran away when they heard footsteps. The footsteps were getting closer and he knew he had to get away. He jumped off the curb and ran, and he could hear the footsteps and voices following him. Finally the tiny little kitten stopped and he could hear footfalls. Two warm hands gathered him and held him close, and they took him inside. When they cleaned his eyes, they saw that he had no eyes. They took him to the vet who confirmed that the little kitten was blind, and he said he knew a girl who worked in his office who already had two rescue cats. Would the little kitten like his new home?

Pepito's Whiskers: A True Story of a Blind Cat by Sarah Lalonde is the heartwarming story of Pepito, a blind kitten who was taken in by Carrie and given a home. The illustrations by Laiken Hall breathe life into the story and the characters, and make them real to readers.
