Stone of Destiny is the seventh and final book in Margaret Izard's Stones of Iona series. All the stones have been retrieved, and the maidens have found their shields. The final act of this engaging time-travel romance centers on the change of guardians, a ceremony that will require incredible feats of magic and trust, prophesied to take place during a fierce battle between good and evil Fae. Yet one person among those gathered for the changing feels she has no place. Kat is not a maiden of a stone, and though she has no part in the prophecy, she believes she can help. When an evil Fae visits her in her dreams, she may put everyone she loves in danger, especially Ceallach, the Fae warrior sent to protect them all. As Ceallach falls for Kat, he is torn between duty and love, bound by an ancient law that forbids relationships between Fae and humans. Will he be able to save Kat and the keepers of the Iona Stones, or will chaos take over the world?

The Stones of Iona series is both action-packed and emotionally charged, and it culminates here in the seventh and final book. With all the stones found and the time of the current guardians at an end, Margaret Izard delivers an explosive conclusion. In the Stone of Destiny, all the emotions represented by the stones—love, fear, hope, lust, faith, and doubt—are brought together in the story of Kat and Ceallach, played out against the backdrop of the changing of guardianship. These emotions are shown to be real and essential to any relationship. The white flower, which represents destiny, beautifully supports the novel's theme, as it embodies what the first six stones have led to. When all the emotions of the stones are found between a couple, they become destined for each other. As the ceremony to change guardians draws near, so does the destiny of the couples connected to each stone. This has been a wonderful series to read, filled with humor, action, and suspense, but most of all true romance and the melting-chocolate warmth it creates in the reader. I cannot wait to see what adventure Ms. Izard has in store next.

As the MacDougall clan and their allies gather to celebrate Ewan's union with his bride, not everyone present is truly happy. Kat, sister to Ewan's closest friend Doug, desperately misses her brother as she struggles to come to terms with his decision to stay in the past for the sake of the woman he loves. When Ceallach arrives at the McDougall homestead with dire news for the clan, her heart yearns for his attention. Ceallach believes the prophecy of the stones is upon them and, under such dangerous circumstances, is not keen on awakening feelings that are better left alone. Will their plans for the stones of Iona succeed, or will Kat's desires throw a spanner in the works? Only time will tell in Margaret Izard's Stone of Destiny.

Margaret Izard's Stone of Destiny closes the loop on several burning subplots in the Stones of Iona series. Ewan's search for love concludes, and we glimpse how Doug's chosen path plays out. What makes it so impressive is the way Izard uses subtle hints in the dialogue to reference the previous books in the series, maintaining continuity for die-hard fans and context for new readers to enjoy this offering as a standalone. Kat and Ceallach's conversations produce notable moments, such as Kat's comments about Ceallach's outfit and their debate about the best gifts life has to offer. These instances give the narrative a realistic feel and will appeal to romance genre purists. In true Izard fashion, the sexual scenes are so steamy they leave little to the imagination. She weaves all these elements together with an entertaining time-travel angle, encouraging readers to think outside the box as they appreciate Izard's exquisite storytelling style.

Stone of Destiny is the seventh book in the paranormal romance series, Stones of Iona, by Margaret Izard. I enjoyed the skillful blend of romance, adventure, and fantasy in the story. Kat MacArthur is human, and she has a connection to the ancient magical stones, the Stones of Iona, which have the power to influence different destinies and different realms. Kat struggles with the loss of her brother to another realm, and now that the stones have been recovered, a prophecy foretells impending chaos. She finds herself involved in the world of ancient curses, fae warriors, and dangerous magic, with her heart falling for the Fae warrior Ceallach. He has sworn an oath to protect Kat and the Iona Stones during the Gathering. Ceallach knows he wants Kat, but duty doesn’t allow him to have her. When dark forces rise to claim the stones, Ceallach must make a difficult choice. Can he save them and the one he loves, defying the laws of fae love?

The prose and the worldbuilding were magical, and the characters were exceptionally developed. Margaret Izard’s imaginative tale reveals layers of intrigue that are entwined with magic. The relationship between Kat and Ceallach kept me turning the pages; it was filled with tension and heartache. One moment you think they will swear to belong to each other, then the next moment you are wondering what will happen next. The author builds strong plot points and a conflict that moves the story steadily forward. The characters are appealing, and apart from the likable Kat and Ceallach, the antihero, Manix Skene, is a force to reckon with, sinister, and personifying evil. I couldn’t stop reading Stone of Destiny, and I can’t wait to read the entire series.
