Have you ever envisioned creating something so amazing that you just couldn’t stop trying until it was perfect? That’s the spirit behind Piper’s Fort Frenzy by Cortney Cino. Readers are introduced to Piper, who really wants to build the ultimate fort. She has so many plans for how to make it, and even dreams of spending the night inside it. She refuses to give up even after unexpected setbacks and several failed attempts. With the help of her best friend, Gary (her guinea pig), and plenty of encouragement from those around her, she discovers that the best ideas sometimes arrive when she least expects. This heartfelt story about imaginative play features amusing mishaps and warm moments, celebrating problem-solving and the joy of thinking big, while also embodying the timeless wisdom of the old saying: "If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again."
Piper’s Fort Frenzy by Cortney Cino was an absolute joy to read, and I think children will love it, too. Even after her forts don’t turn out as planned, young readers will surely admire Piper’s determination to keep trying. It’s a very engaging, funny, and authentic story. As an educator, I appreciate how it models perseverance and finding solutions in a way that students can easily relate to through play. The playful stumbles will make kids laugh, while the reassurance from others will remind them how support can help them grow. I believe they will especially enjoy the inventive details, such as Gary the guinea pig serving as her trusty pal, because they absolutely love animal characters in books. They’re also likely to share their own ideas for forts or creative projects after reading it. This storybook creatively encourages resilience even in the face of failure. It will be a true inspiration for anyone who reads it.
