In the third book of the Hidden Earth series, Planet Water: Draugar of the Abyss by Janet Beasley, readers are taken along with Arrowanna who has been entrusted by the SUL to officially become The Carrier for the elemental piece, Planet Water. Her journey is one that will lead her into danger and the SUL tells her that the elemental piece has been broken into three separate sections so that the entire Element is kept away from the evil that lurks about Planet Water. She has to take the magic tall ship that is awaiting her, and sail to a lone island, the Island of Mystery. The SUL sends sprites, Jit and Giddy, to watch over her, along with Charleo, the chukkon in the crow’s nest. As Arrowanna sets out on her journey on her sixteenth birthday to find the elemental piece, she has been kept in the dark about the hideous Draugar who can perform dark magic. Her mother, Kelpie, is positive that the Draugar of the Abyss is watching Arrowanna and they have become familiar with her and her habits. Will Arrowanna be able to return successfully or will the quest be too much for her?

This story has undertones of Old Norse history and Vikings, and it is about self belief, courage, fortitude, and friendship. The main character, Arrowanna, has been portrayed well and her quest takes her through many dangers, but she also finds love during the journey. I like the way in which the author conveys a message to readers through the story. The plot is fast paced and mesmerizing with interesting twists and turns and sub plots. Readers are taken on an adventurous ride with fantastical characters that will keep them captivated till the very end. All the characters complement the main character and the sub plots have been woven into the main plot seamlessly, thereby giving many dimensions to the story and making it a compelling read. Fabulous story. I can't wait to read the next book, Planet Sky!
