Gillean's mysteries feature strong females, chilling perpetrators, psychological twists, and a little bit of romance.
Even as a small child Gillean was a storyteller. In grade school, classmates would follow her around the school yard as she role played a new story that had come to her. When Gillean’s children were grown and she retired, stories started coming unbidden to her. Her problem now is that she can’t get the characters to go to sleep at night.
Gillean was born and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She worked for the military for twenty-five years, while raising two children as a single mother. After retiring, Gillean moved back to Santa Fe where she lives with her four-legged best friend. When not writing mysteries, Gillean is reading them. She also enjoys fly fishing and camping in the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado.

I really enjoyed reading Predictable Violence by Gillean Campbell. Detective Mackenzie (Mack) Anderson has a very tragic past. It is the reason she became a homicide detective. When a triple homicide occurs, along with a confession, it seems as if it will be an open and shut case. However, something about the case does not sit right in Mackenzie’s gut. Mackenzie races against time to find the answers while fighting the ghosts from her past.
Campbell has done an excellent job with Predictable Violence. I loved the character of Mack. She is a strong female character. She shows readers a different way to deal with grief. That is to fight back and help others that have suffered similar circumstances. I also loved the character of Sigurd. He was such a great protector. He and Mack had great chemistry. There are two stories going on in this book. Mack’s personal story about how she deals with her grief and the murder mystery. I thought Mack’s story was inspiring. She showed me that grief can lead to good things. The murder mystery part of the book was good and had me going for a bit. I guessed who the murderer was before the end, but I had a lot of suspects to eliminate first.
It has been a while since I read a book that I did not want to put down. This book made me lose sleep, but it was well worth it. I hope Campbell continues to write because she has definitely has talent. So, if you like a good murder mystery, then this is the book for you!
