¿Quién es?/Who’s That? by Marla Larsson Perfect is a bilingual storybook for children where a little girl is looking at the family album with her mother. She likes seeing her father’s funny photo and she tries imitating him. She gets to know that, like her grandfather, both her mother and she are bilingual and they can converse in Spanish and English. Through the pictures, her mother shows her all the family members and how the little girl is a part of the family and they are a part of her. He mother tells her that she is her father’s humor, grandfather’s language, grandmother’s curiosity, mother’s laughter, granddad's strength, and granny’s kindness. It is a warm story of love and mother-daughter bonding over pictures.
The story is adorable and the theme connects well with young readers. The illustrations are charming and they breathe life into both of the characters and give the story a good pace and movement. The idea of writing a bilingual story is good as it reaches out to a wider audience. It is a cute story for bedtime story-telling as it handles the topic of family, its strength, and family love. The story is also good for classroom reading sessions as children will find the little girl’s and her mother’s characters relatable and real. The story will encourage all families to look at their family album together and bask in their warm memories. The bilingual story handles the magic of language learning by having the story in two languages, Spanish and English.
