Race to the Great Invention is an action-adventure sci-fi/fantasy novel for children. Written by Bronwen Butter Newcott, the story follows the adventures of sixth graders and best friends Tessa Hardy and Gus Tucker. While spying on their eccentric neighbor, Professor Argus Henchworth, and his yard, Tessa and Gus discover there is an Unseen world hidden beneath the real one. The professor gives the two youngsters a golden telescope called the Ultimate Vider, which enables them to view this Unseen world. The professor further reveals that they must return the Ultimate Vider to The Great Invention, or this era will end in four days along with everything else. However, the Shellstalkers are determined to get their hands on the Ultimate Vider, and Bronken is a master manipulator. With Gus' younger brother, Hodges, Tessa and Gus must now save both worlds.

Get your dose of magic, action, mystery, and humor with Race to the Great Invention. Bronwen Butter Newcott tells a wondrous tale that pushes the boundaries of your imagination and leaves you wanting more. The author moves the plot along swiftly, featuring unexpected curveballs along the way that have you wondering what's going to happen next. Parts of the narrative feel almost surreal, and I think sci-fi/fantasy lovers are especially in for a treat with this book. I loved the friendship between Tessa and Gus, as well as their dynamics with other friends and family members. This adventure tale also has a message about trying to do the right thing even when the odds are stacked against you. Overall, I immensely enjoyed the book and feel young fantasy readers will absolutely love it!
