Thomas, or Tom, lives on a desirable street named Arch Wellington Lane. He is of average build, average height, with an average life. His daily schedule is very average, and even his surroundings are average. Regiopolis by Hayden Hayes is the story of Tom who lives in an alternate universe where things are a little different. People are more liberated, talking about sex is not as taboo as it once was, and the number of one's sexual encounters is not a secret anymore but rather a topic for discussion like the weather or politics. In this bleak, unforgiving world, Tom’s outlook on life is irrevocably changed as he meets a woman who, like him, does not care to expose herself so liberally. When he meets this woman, everything changes. The apartment building he lives in looks almost brand new. But will this new romance last for them in a society where it is doomed to fail? Or will their love be just quirky enough to be accepted by the general population?
Regiopolis by Hayden Hayes is an alternative story about a man looking at life differently from the norm. The book is written to be read like a diary, with the thoughts of the character showing in between. The world the author creates is a marvel to behold. You are transported through the brilliant mind of Hayes right into the middle of Tom’s world. You can sense the bleak and dreary setting as the world changes around the main protagonist, as well as the world with bits of color here and there. The author is a master at creating a world and making you feel as if you are not just reading a book but rather that you are a part of it. Hayes is a master storyteller.
