Lori R. Lopez's Remember To Die is a masterfully crafted Gothic horror tale that seamlessly blends the macabre with dark humor. Set in the Victorian era, the story revolves around Archibald Meem, a timid photographer who is embarking on his first solo assignment. He is hired to take a family portrait for the enigmatic Darling Horrensby and her peculiar clan. Upon his arrival at their eerie estate, Archibald finds himself immersed in an unsettling world filled with ghostly apparitions, strange rituals, and unexpected romance. The narrative strikes a delicate balance between mystery, suspense, and humor, offering a distinctive exploration of themes such as love and mortality. As Archibald navigates the bizarre occurrences, the story invites both him and the reader to confront life’s fleeting nature and the enduring connections that can arise from it.

I thoroughly enjoyed Remember To Die for its imaginative plot and cast of eccentric characters. The pacing felt organic, starting slowly as we learn about Archibald’s timid existence and then picking up momentum as the peculiarities of the Horrensby family unfold. Archibald’s journey from a nervous apprentice to someone who embraces life—albeit in unconventional ways—was both heartwarming and rewarding. The clever interplay of love and mortality was skillfully woven into the narrative, often laced with a wink of humor that lightened the darker themes. The Horrensbys, especially the unsettlingly charming Darling, added layers of complexity that made the story even more captivating. Lori R. Lopez's writing is vivid and atmospheric, drawing me into the gloomy yet strangely endearing world of the Horrensbys.
