This is a heartfelt story about Sammy Scallop, who starts out being very popular in elementary school; but after an incident where he was helping to save his sister, he cracked his shell. This imperfection left him less popular amongst the other creatures, especially his so-called friends. Now that he has this crack, he is looked at differently. But, when his teacher needs help, only Sammy Scallop can rescue her, and his imperfection of a broken shell makes all the difference in the rescue. Because of this and the successful rescue, his friends and schoolmates realize that even though Sammy Scallop is different and flawed, this makes him unique and allows him to do great things! What a great message to share with young children!

With all the bullying in schools and children feeling inadequate and different, it is nice to share a book like this with them to show them that God makes everyone different; and it is because of these differences that make us unique and one-of-a-kind. Also, it lets children see that they are loved no matter their differences and that they shouldn't feel embarrassed or "broken." I especially loved the illustrations in this book and the easy to read and understand text. This will definitely be a book I will read over and over again to my children as they grow up and are faced with peer pressure and feeling different.
