Avery's Tangled Garden by Pam Robertson tells the story of a young badger named Avery who is asked by his mother to pull grass from the garden border. The task feels too large for him, so he looks around for another way to get it done. He goes over to the pond and asks the goslings and their aunt for help by eating the grass. In the beginning, it gets a little messy, and a few of them start eating the flowers in the garden. With a bit of direction, they turn their attention back to the grass and keep working. As everything unfolds, Avery begins to understand more about working together, being patient, and solving problems. The story also includes interesting facts about badgers and geese. Come along with Avery on this sweet little adventure.

Avery's Tangled Garden by Pam Robertson is a children's picture book that mixes a gentle story with simple facts about animals and the outdoors. I love how straightforward the story is and how it focuses on Avery trying to handle a task on his own. It moves at a calm and steady pace. The goslings add funny moments that make it more enjoyable to read. I think the animal facts were included in a sensible way that adds meaning to the story. The illustrations by Jonathan Resch help you clearly see the garden, the geese, and Avery as everything in the story takes place. I think this book would be a nice choice for young children who enjoy stories about animals, helping others, and learning from their mistakes. Very highly recommended.
