Author Biography

I write for two audiences: adults readers who want to understand their God-given design and walk in it as victorious Christians, and for children, to teach and to entertain.

I began telling stories when I had enough brothers for an audience! There were four all told and finally a sister, but by then I was 14. We lived on a farm in northeastern Iowa near the Mississippi River and attended school in a one-room schoolhouse. I draw on the adventures of growing up for my children's stories.

Sassy Pants is the first in a series of four. The second, Sassy Pants Makes Amends recently released is the second. And, who knows how many more critters will leave paw or hoof prints on a page--there were many of them on that farm!

I was raised in a rural farming community in Iowa for the first 16 years of life. The family moved to Minnesota where I finished high school and then pursued academics. I met my husband, David, during his internship with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We married in 1969, and have ministered together nationally and internationally--David as pastor, counselor, and trainer, I as educator and helpmate. We have two daughters and five grandchildren.

"Sassy Pants Makes Amends" is the second in a series of young readers’ books about a little piglet who lives with Farmer White and a lot of barnyard animals. The stories are told by Ms. Molly Merino, a lamb who is the resident barnyard instructor who tells Sassy Pants stories each spring to new residents of Farmer White’s farm. These stories are meant to show children the negative consequences of their poor choices. This book starts out with Sassy Pants crying because nobody wanted to be her friend or to play with her. An old horse named Clyde explains to the little piglet that perhaps she has broken some friendships and needs to make amends. Sassy Pants had been mean and obnoxious to the other barnyard animals in the past by calling them names or getting them dirty. The book takes you through the many interactions between Sassy Pants the piglet and the other barnyard animals where she learns how to sincerely apologize and they learn how to forgive. The book also teaches the lessons of doing good deeds and earning trust. There are some cute characters in the book including Reginald Ram, Fred the Bull, Kitty, and Grey Tommie.

The illustrations are done in pen and ink and have some of the most adorable expressions on the little barnyard animal faces. Author Carol A. Brown has done a great job creating relatable characters and teaching a lesson to young readers that they can apply in their own lives. This book would make a great storybook for classroom reading time.
