Seduced by Promises is the first novel in The Deception Series by Kate S. Burns. This suspenseful romance follows Macy as she loses her job and her boyfriend on the same day. She thought she and Jack would get married, but things changed when Jack decided the relationship wasn't working anymore. Desperate for a fresh start, she joins her friends on a night out, and she meets Cade Donovan. Smart, attentive, and charismatic, Cade was everything she ever wanted. The chemistry between them sizzles, and their passionate relationship develops further. However, before Macy knows it, Cade becomes her worst nightmare. He is possessive with unpredictable anger and wants to control every aspect of Macy’s life. Things get even worse when Macy discovers strange truths about Caden that scare her. She needs to get away from Cade. But can she?
Author Kate S. Burns created an exceptionally well-written romance suspense novel in Seduced by Promises that had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I loved to hate Cade. He was just charming enough not to be sleazy and attentive enough not to appear as possessive in the beginning. Things got scary, but Macy was so starved for affection and attention that she didn’t understand what was happening. I wanted to scream and shout at Macy to run the other way and escape from Cade, but she didn’t. Cade was the picture of perfection before he became unsettling. I loved how the author left little details in the dialogues or simply hid them in the descriptions for the reader to find. I enjoyed finding them and trying to make sense of them. The pace is perfect, the development is great, and I’m thrilled to see what happens in the next novel in the series.
