Author Biography

Webilor started writing as a child. With an imaginative mind and always daydreaming of fun characters in a world of possibilities she couldn't help coming up with stories on the go. Telling it to classmates while in school to bedtime stories to little ones. The trajectory changed slightly when she was blessed with a child with exceptionalities, special needs and disabilities who challenged not only how we see the world but also how we make room for others different from us to live in it. Her nonverbal son Eromosele (fondly called Sele) has been the inspiration for her walking on this path of providing a voice for the voiceless and inclusive educational resources that all children can love, have fun and relate to. Most importantly he has taught her that every behaviour be it positive or negative is a form of communication and that our special kids communicate and speak in so many ways without words.

Join a fun-loving neurodivergent boy on his wondrous adventures in a magical realm with Webilor Ediale's Sele Speaks Without Words. Despite his nonverbal autism, sensory processing disorder, and learning disabilities, young Sele loves to explore the outdoors. While taking a walk in the park with his mom and little sister, Sele comes across a mysterious and colorful stone that suddenly transports him to a magical world with a variety of plants and animals. He meets Maddie the Dragonfly with three sets of wings, Drogo the Owl, who suffers from nyctophobia, Cha-Cha the Butterfly with a broken wing who also has OCD, and Flash, the playful young monkey with ADHD. One by one, Sele helps his new friends overcome their issues and begins his journey back home. However, he must now navigate a few challenges of his own.

Sele Speaks Without Words is an uplifting adventure tale for preteens, neurodivergents, and neurotypicals alike. The narrative celebrates diversity and inclusivity while incorporating a beautiful message about adopting a growth mindset to conquer the hurdles life throws one's way. With an engaging story, author Webilor Ediale highlights the everyday challenges kids suffering from disorders like autism, ADHD, and OCD face and shows how they can rise above their seeming disabilities and find ways to express themselves through art, music, and dance. The characters are adorable. Young readers will find a lot to relate to in Sele. His friendships with Maddie, Drogo, Cha-Cha, and Flash make him easy to root for. Additionally, Jecoe Firmalan's eye-catching illustrations breathe life into these characters. If you're looking for an inspirational adventure tale that also entertains, this book will be right up your alley!

Some books have the power to resonate deeply, and *Sele Speaks Without Words* is undoubtedly one of them. I can’t help but wish it existed during my childhood—it would have been a beacon of understanding and connection for my younger self.

This is much more than a book; it’s an experience. With stunning visuals, vibrant colors, thought-provoking facts, and a perspective that challenges conventional thinking, it’s a true page-turner. I couldn’t put it down, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone.

What struck me the most was how much I related to it. Autism is often misunderstood and, at times, overlooked, which is truly disheartening. *Sele Speaks Without Words* bridges that gap. It has the potential to foster greater empathy and understanding—not just in schools but also for parents navigating the challenges of raising a child on the autism spectrum. This book has the power to build bridges where barriers once stood.

It’s an inspiring read, and I truly believe it could make a difference in so many lives.

As a School Board Superintendent specializing in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, I have encountered many resources aimed at fostering understanding and inclusion for students with exceptionalities. Sele Speaks Without Words stands out as an engaging, insightful, and essential book that should be in every school library.

This beautifully illustrated story takes readers on a journey through the experiences of Sele, a child with Autism, allowing parents, educators, and students to see the world through his eyes. It presents the real and practical challenges children with Autism and cognitive exceptionalities face while celebrating their strengths, friendships, and unique ways of interacting with the world.

One of the most impactful aspects of the book is its ability to foster empathy. Young readers see themselves in Sele’s journey, as captured in a touching moment when children react by saying, "He is a real boy." This speaks to the book’s power in promoting representation and understanding, reinforcing that every child’s experience is valid and valued.

Beyond its storytelling, Sele Speaks Without Words serves as an excellent resource for educators. It can be used as a social story to facilitate real conversations about neurodiversity, inclusion, and acceptance in the classroom. The book is not just an enjoyable read—it is a tool for building a more inclusive school culture.

In every sense, this book is magical, vibrant, and deeply meaningful. I strongly recommend it for all school boards seeking to enhance their library collections with stories that inspire understanding, kindness, and inclusion.

Children and adults alike will love the wonderful artwork whilst enjoying Sele's adventures. The story covers diversity, gently explains certain characteristics we may see in others, touches on coping strategies, friendship and teamwork. However, above all things, the message from the book is to love and appreciate those around us and ourselves, just as we are.

A wonderful discovery and a book all children should enjoy.

Cover very attractive. Fun TOC, introduction fab! Right off this book made me smile and grabbed my attention. I appreciated the thoughtfulness the author put into the creativity.
Love the way facts are given about the different characters and then a twist is added to share something a bit different about each and how that makes them special in their environment or for a specific task.
The explanation of each animals distinctness intertwining spectrum disorders was a clever touch as well.
The book is full of positive quotes written in an attractive, color font – easy to draw your attention. Fav: “count your blessings not your problems”.

Wonderful book. Could see it used in schools, at home, and in counseling offices.

As a volunteer art teacher at the local school for the deaf this book speaks to me from a position of knowing. Each person has valuable individual gifts to share. For a project we created a big poster board that said in the middle I AM and then a starburst of colors created a big star on which each of us cut out words from magazines like amazing and unique to add to the board. the book is empowering and well done
