Sides by Bradley Caffee tells the story of Tyler Simmons, one of the very few people who have never played Sides, an online game to which the entire nation is addicted. Everyone waits for the mysterious clock in the game to reach "zero hour." As the moment passes, the app stops working, and the game becomes a reality for all players. The predators in the game begin to hunt desperately, making the ones who play as prey flee and hide in fear of being hunted. Like many others, it puts Tyler's sister, a low-level prey, at serious risk. With a nation gone berserk, it is up to Tyler, a non-player, and Brooklyn, a survivor, to put an end to this, for the sake of their families and millions of others.
Bradley Caffee’s Sides is a brilliant piece of work. The intriguing plot and engaging style of narration make it nearly impossible to put the book down. Bradley effectively portrays the personalities of the main characters through their words and actions. The characters are interesting and well-written, and anyone who loves strong female leads is bound to love Brooklyn. One of the best aspects of the story is the bond between the family members; the way they fight for each other and put their children, parents, or siblings before everything else is breathtaking. Although the plot is fiction, I believe the book indirectly hints at the potential consequences of addiction to such games. I would recommend this book to readers aged thirteen and above.
