R.E. Wood delves into the mind of a serial killer in Sisterly Love. Paula Spencer is a tough New York cop from Queens in a serious, loving relationship, with good friends. One minor mistake, being too scrupulously honest, invalidates evidence against three men that she and her partner catch: charged with gang rape and murder, they walk free. Infuriated, Paula begins to change: first she becomes a vigilante killer intent on delivering justice personally. In the space of a month, guided sometimes by psychic visions, she shoots eleven people. Not all are criminals; anyone who offends her is in danger, including those she stalks by night, addicted to the power of delivering instant death. Paula, a highly-regarded officer, is promoted from the beat to plain-clothes detective. How long before the net begins to close, or does she avoid retribution for the crimes she continues to commit?
Sisterly Love by R.E. Wood opens with deliberate, calculated murder; the justice system has let down a victim and cop Paula appoints herself judge, jury, and executioner. The path leads from law-abiding law-enforcement officer, to vigilante, to a woman addicted to killing highs, and Paula hurtles down it at breakneck speed. The sheer brilliance of this thriller lies in the way Mr Wood develops a realistic psychopath who feeds on her own perceived inherent weaknesses. Every villain, detective, friend, and innocent victim is well-drawn; the dream, or nightmare, sequences are effective, and the sex scenes worthy of the best erotica. Sisterly Love is a spellbinding, five-star must-read.
