A.M. Britwell’s book, Sitting by the Windowsill of Life with a Spiritual Friend, is a collection of poetry. Inspired by the soulful George Harrison, the poems include subjects from the Lord and peace in life and the afterlife. The poet’s voice is gentle, encouraging, and enlightening. The words express encouragement to embrace differences, to be confident, and to live in the light. Enlightenment can be gained by understanding God and ourselves, mere mortals. Many of the poems read like letters written to quiet and unassuming souls. All offer hope in an often-chaotic world.

The poems from Sitting by the Windowsill of Life with a Spiritual Friend echo lyrics written and sung by my favorite Beatle, George Harrison. That fact, and the dreamy cover art, is what drew me to this collection by A.M. Britwell. The cover image is reminiscent of a music album cover. So, already, from the top, music and poetry coincide. But it is the words that sound like Harrison’s warm and loving spirit that had me reading several poems a day. In dark and uncertain times, this book brings love and light. What I most enjoyed about this book is the introspective, cosmic quality that exudes from it. Like one of my all-time favorite poems, the legendary Desiderata by Max Ehrman, I found a simple complexity in the writing that is both cathartic and transportive. Each section of the collection is like a short vignette or passing view from a window. I highly recommend this collection of uplifting luminaries inspired by George Harrison, a true prophet of music, love, and light.

Sitting by the Windowsill of Life with a Spiritual Friend, Volume I by A.M. Britwell is a collection of spiritual writings inspired by the life, music, and philosophy of George Harrison. Structured as a series of poetic meditations and conversations, the author imagines what Harrison might say to readers about love, peace, aging, grief, kindness, and personal growth. The introduction explains that the author uses creative nonfiction to blend personal reflections with interpretations of Harrison’s public beliefs and spiritual outlook. Throughout the collection, nature imagery recurs, with references to gardens, changing seasons, sunlight, oceans, birds, and trees as symbols of renewal and spiritual awareness. George Harrison’s influence appears in references to music, spirituality, humility, and inner peace, while the author also reflects on broader ideas involving human consciousness, healing, and the importance of living authentically.

Sitting by the Windowsill of Life with a Spiritual Friend is written in a lyrical and repetitive style that mirrors prayer, song lyrics, and meditative prose. A.M. Britwell relies heavily on recurring motifs such as light, wind, flowers, seasons, and music, creating continuity across the collection while reinforcing its spiritual themes. The repeated use of conversational phrases creates an ongoing dialogue between the guide and the reader, while the imagery tied to nature and music lends many passages a calm, soothing atmosphere. The structure also makes the book easy to read gradually over time, since each reflection stands on its own while still contributing to the larger themes of growth and inner peace. Britwell writes like Richard Bach, combining spirituality, reflective philosophy, and gentle observations about human experience.

George Harrison never aspired to be rich or famous. He and his friends played music for the love and adventure of it. Their extraordinary talent gained them international stardom as The Beatles. George managed to preserve his quiet nature. He looked inward, finding a spiritual path that embraced eastern philosophy and a growing connection with the universe. At times underrated as a guitarist, he grew in stature as a musician, composer, and solo artist. He protected his own identity by relying on his inner peace and wisdom. Above all, he remained authentic. His life and deep spirituality provided inspiration for A.M. Britwell, who pays tribute to Harrison in Sitting by the Windowsill of Life with a Spiritual Friend. This work comprises 166 short chapters of prose, grouped into 8 sections, in which the author imagines what George Harrison may have said or thought about the world, based on his lyrics and interviews. These explore themes such as love, peace, harmony, wisdom, nature, and shared life experience to create an ethos of reflection and encouragement.

A.M. Britwell is an Integrative Health and Energy Medicine Practitioner, who was born in 1964, just as Beatlemania was about to captivate America. She was a second-generation listener of the Beatles and rediscovered George Harrison while on a spiritual journey. He became a spiritual mentor, despite the fact that they never met. Sitting by the Windowsill of Life with a Spiritual Friend is not a biography in any sense, but is rather a respectful interpretation of what George may have said or thought on a variety of issues, and thus relies on poetic license. The chosen writing style is a blend of prose and poetry, incorporating an etheric quality that mirrors the spiritual theme. The writing style belongs to the author alone, and features contemporary language far removed from Harrison’s roots in Liverpool. Harrison’s memory lives on through the legacy of his music and spiritual beliefs. This book is a fitting tribute to an artist who never sought fame but reached the pinnacle of stardom.
