Soul Seeker is a work of fiction in the urban paranormal romance genre, penned by author Kaylin McFarren and presented in audiobook format by narrator Rhys David. The work is suited to the mature adult audience due to the inclusion of graphic violence, explicit language, and sexual situations. The plot centers on the maniacal journey of Crighton Daemonium, a dark figure on the hunt for a soul he has been sent to retrieve. When he crosses paths with the unfortunate Benjamin Poe, Crighton sets his sights on murder, and the path between freedom and enslavement lies ahead.
Author Kaylin McFarren delivers a superb story with supernatural complications, executions, accusations, and a well-woven plot. Soul Seeker is the kind of book that requires a tolerance for the darker, grittier aspects of life, but once you’re suckered into Crighton’s ill deeds and those around him, who will either help or hinder the quest, the story sharply unveils a deeper meaning. The action scenes were viscerally delivered and easily imagined, and the narrative style gives the work a crisp noir edge that offsets the urban and gothic elements of the horror tale wonderfully well.
In terms of audiobook presentation, narrator Rhys David brings gritty confidence to the narration around Poe’s grim fate and Crighton’s wicked quest. The audio is of high professional quality with seamless editing and wonderful pacing, which only adds to the immersive reading experience of the story. Overall, I would highly recommend Soul Seeker to fans of intricate mysteries, horror dramas, and suspense novels.
