Sweet Lenora by Ute Carbone is set in a time when arranged marriages were common and abolitionists were still looked down upon. Society and wealth were highly focused within the shipping industry. Readers will encounter forced marriages, the shipping industry-trade, love, murder, secrets, and adventure. Twenty-year-old Lenora has suffered the loss of her father unexpectedly and is left no time to grieve when she is promised to a much older, violent friend of her uncle's. Lenora knows deep down that the rumors of how he became a widower are true and she does not want to suffer the same fate as his late wife. She must find a way out of this unwanted life she has been forced into, but how? All she knows is her father's business and she is now the owner of a shipyard and the clipper ship that has taken her namesake, the Sweet Lenora.
Author Ute Carbone sure does know how to capture the avid novel reader's attention right from the start with an adventurous story plot.
