Mary Lee's The ABC's of Titles for Tiny Tales: Writing Prompts to Ignite and Excite a Child to Write is filled with marvelous full-color illustrations and catchy prompts. This book can be used as a workbook as the facing page for each illustration is lined and ready for a child to write. There are prompts for careers, animals, toys and even ghostly visitors. There are also plenty of nature prompts filled with lush foliage, plants, butterflies and animals. Lee also includes prompts that allow children to write about their feelings. There are happy faces throughout The ABC's of Titles, but there's also one sad illustration of a girl who is crying. Each prompt should give rise to a number of different stories.

The ABC's of Titles for Tiny Tales: Writing Prompts to Ignite and Excite a Child is filled with inventive and inspirational ways to get children writing, effortlessly and pain-free. The illustrations alone provide so much descriptive material that children who don't think they could ever write a story will find themselves busily writing away. What a great confidence booster this is! Not every picture will catch every kid's imagination, but so many interests and hobbies are represented in this alphabet of prompts, that most kids will find plenty to write about. I am a very visually-oriented reader and loved the woods on the very first page, and the bullfrogs and butterflies on the second. I could see myself starting a story from either of those pages, and then that very funny crocodile... Mary Lee's The ABC's of Titles for Tiny Tales: Writing Prompts to Ignite and Excite a Child is a fabulous gift for a kid who just needs a little push to set his or her imagination ablaze. This book will do it.

Mary Lee has once again focused on a subject that needs attention. Her second book, "When Grandma's False Teeth Fly" dealt very subtly, but quite effectively, with bullying. "The ABC's of Titles for Tiny Tales" has writing prompts to ignite and excite a child to write. It is the perfect answer to...."How do we encourage our children to write and enjoy the art of reading?" The digital age, with all its splendor and awe, has jeopardized the art of penmanship. Will our children be able to write without computerized assistance? This book has so much to offer towards positive results for both parents and educators. It has beautiful pictures that almost leap from the pages and space for them to start their own stories. Congratulations, Mrs. Lee! Your books always offer hope and encouragement for young readers. . .

As the books says..."Every story begins with an idea..." The author Mary Lee has done a magnificent job creating a way to learn the letters of the alphabet by allowing the child to practice writing within the pages of the book! The illustrations will grab your child's attention and spur his/her imagination to write and form letters beautifully. The book is great for early letters writing skills or for children learning to write sentences using the letters and illustration to help create their very own story through every page. If you are tired of the letter X always standing for Xray you will see how much thought and education went into this book as X stands for Xebec and encourages you to Look It Up! It actually has a wonderful illustration and definition too. I am sure parents will find themselves learning something new along with the children. Not only would I highly recommend this book for a leaning and teaching tool I recommend you but all 3 of Mary Lee's books as My Air Force Mom is great for anyone interested in military life and When Grandma's False Teeth Fly, a humorous story that teaches children the effects of bullying and how yo deal with it. By the way this book won the Sliver Medal Award from Military Writers of America! You will not be disappointed as these books will be treasured by your little ones and become fast favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creativity, a true work of art., August 28, 2014

This review is from: The ABC's of Titles for Tiny Tales (Paperback)
This is a wonderful tool for parents/teachers to use at home and in the classroom. It is sure to stimulate the young writer/reader to come up with stories of their own. The titles and illustrations are magical. Young minds will spark and catch on fire with ideas to create their own stories from the clever use of the alphabet and accompanying illustrations. Parents can use this book to motivate and spend time with their children, while teachers can use it as a tool to aid in creativity and learning. I think it should be in the classroom along with other aides that teachers use to spark creativity in young readers/writers. A true work of art with a dual purpose waiting to be utilized.
